The Lady Arrives

If you don’t know who she is, if you’ve never heard her speak, now is as good a time as any to get to know Burmese hero Aung San Suu Kyi,who, from house arrest in Burma, has had to watch her country undergo incredible poverty and political oppression.  She arrived in the US for the first time in 40 years yesterday.

In the Daily Beast article linked above, someone remarks that you can be a human rights activist ot a politician, but not both. She has made few to no remarks about the Rohingya Muslims, who are being massacred. Maybe it is a little too soon and maybe she is just one person, but hoping is so easy.

Learn about Burma, and if you want to learn more about Suu Kyi you should read a collection of her writings and speeches called Freedom from Fear. You’ll be inspired.
