Alabama Civil Rights Activist on Colbert Report

Scott Douglas, of the Greater Birmingham Ministries of Alabama, advocating against Alabama’s HB 56.

Overall, a pretty good interview. The symbolism of the entire thing, perhaps, is the best part- an African American activist speaking in solidarity with immigrants on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

However, I do want to note that Douglas stumbles over the question – “Is it a crime to be an illegal immigrant?” by answering that it’s a federal crime, not a state crime, which seems to be an easy pivot away from the real issue at hand- the criminalization of people who are just there to work (woops, not anymore!)

My favorite line- “If farm workers aren’t picking crops, I don’t get my caesar salad.”

Join us in opposing Alabama’s HB 56.
