Senator Durbin reintroduced the DREAM Act as a stand-alone bill shortly after Republicans voted against cloture in moving forward with the Defense Authorization Bill, to which Senator Harry Reid wanted to attach the DREAM Act.
It’s largely a procedural move, but it means one very important thing- last week was just a fire drill. And it was a productive one too: Americas Voice reports that the aggregate of the phone calls, faxes, and emails sent by DREAM Activists, USSA, RI4A, and Presente, we made over 335,000 points of contact with the Senate.
When our vote, THE vote rolls around, we’ll be ready.
If you’re wondering what you should be doing, don’t stress. The strategy is simple- make sure your senator and your organization is committed to the cause, and make them prove it, over and over again.
If you’re not already involved with a local group working to pass the DREAM Act, contact email@example.com, and we’ll get you started. There are groups in over 20 states, and if you’re not in one of those states, well, we would love to see some DREAM action in Idaho. Or maybe Alaska…
